Work > Something

Infuriated by the human rights violations at Abu Ghraib revealed in 2004, I experienced a desperate need to separate myself from the leadership of my government and to broadcast my disapproval. The broad circulation potential of currency offered a vehicle to discuss and share my concerns about war, oil, blood, greed, and consumption, beyond my community. Initially an independent and surreptitious activity that became more direct and conversational, individuals began to invest small sums in the project expanding circulation to major US cities. Though the initial project went dormant in 2009, the conversations that ensued during transactions were most memorable. What changes in the Extraction exhibition is a different government leadership, different context, similar issues and concerns, and a host of possibilities.
