Cry Me (43’ of) a River entwines memory and the forces of geologic erosion with a national landmark, Niagara Falls. The number 43 references the number of feet that the falls have eroded (one foot per year) in the period between my first and second visits, personally momentous occasions both. In seeking my first vantage point, seared into memory, I realized that it was no more. Symbols of power and progress shift and erode; memory is not fact.
