Depletion and Renewal
This image shows a shelf (left) that holds a fragment of the original vinyl tile residue along with the remainder of a wax disc used to create the rubbings.
The work in the middle is a reproduction of a painting by Bruce Cody of "Lee White's Filling Station" as Rock River Remembrance (2008), serendipitously found and purchased at auction in 2024, showing the gas station as it once stood.
At right, are six of the 30 sections from the gas station floor rubbing - the entire rubbing is 12' x 15'. Each framed section combines the 2023 rubbing on rice paper overlaying the 2019 rubbing on newsprint, showing the area of change that occurred through weathering and erosion over the four years between rubbings.
